Howard Stearns Blodgett Jr, age 90 died early Saturday morning March 24th 2018, peacefully in his sleep at Charlene Manor nursing home in Greenfield, MA.Howard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Stella (Zaharias) of Newport, NH; their two sons, Howard Stearns Blodgett III, “Howie”, of Montague, MA and wife Jill Bromberg, and Gary Alan Blodgett of Huntington, VT and wife Ruth; and his grandchildren, Sarah and Michael Blodgett of Boston, MA and Jared Blodgett of Burlington, VT.Howard was born on May 21, 1927 in Springfield, MA to Howard Stearns Blodgett and Evander Blodgett (Welch), the second of three children. The family moved to Hardwick, VT and later to Claremont, NH where Howard attended St. Mary’s High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from World War II, stationed in Washington DC, and earned a degree in Advertising Design from New England School of Art and Design in Boston, MA in 1948. After returning to Claremont, NH, Howard started his long career at Joy Manufacturing. He married Stella Zaharias, the sister-in-law of his close friend Al St.Martin (deceased) on December 4th, 1954.Howard was an avid reader and book collector, sharp dresser, Sunday driver, dessert lover, crossword solver, Catholic, artist, veteran, perfectionist, intelligent, handsome, and loving husband, dad, and grandpa.There will be a private service for immediate family.
