STANLEY KIELBASA of AMHERST, October 17, 1930 – August 13, 2021
Stanley W. Kielbasa, 90, of Amherst, MA, passed on August 13, 2021, surrounded by his family, following a long illness.
He was born at home on October 17, 1930, to Wladyslaw and Karolina (Blizniak) Kielbasa. He was the 7th of 8 children. Stan graduated from Amherst High School in 1949 and was a communicant of Saint Brigid’s Church in Amherst. He was the Farm Manager at Atkins Farms for many years until an injury forced him to retire. Prior to that, he was a heavy equipment operator for B&M Construction. He was also the owner and operator of his own fruit orchards in Amherst. He was especially proud of his peaches right up to the final hours of his life. Stanley remained active in the fruit grower’s community until 2021. During the 1950’s and 1960’s, he operated a sweet corn stand on Route 116 in Amherst. He was a friend and mentor to all his children and grandchildren who adored him.
Stanley is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lucia (Penfield), his sister Frances Kosakowski, his children Fred (Suzanne) Kielbasa, Lauren (Peter) Kielbasa Therkelsen, LuAnn Kielbasa-Richardson, and Donna Feng, his grandchildren Shasta, Kyle, Chris, Crysta, Ryan, Alex, Karina, Benjamin, Joshua, and Julia, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Edward and Karolina (Blizniak) Kielbasa, his sisters Clara Wilkes, Sally Benbem, Sophie Wojewoda, Wanda Chmura, Joseph Kielbasa, Frank Kielbasa, and his niece Nola.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday August 18, 2021 at 10:00 Am in St. Brigid’s Church, Amherst. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s of the Assumption Cemetery, Leeds. A calling hour will precede the Mass from 8:30 – 9:30 am at the Douglass Funeral Service, Amherst. Masks will be required in all public buildings in Amherst, beginning on Wednesday, the 18th.
