PostHeaderIcon RUTH WENTWORTH of AMHERST, MASS, June 5, 1934 – February 7, 2018

Amherst, Ruth Montague Wentworth, age 83 died peacefully on February 7, 2018 at the Fisher Home in North Amherst.

She was born June 5, 1934 in Northampton to Edward Alfred Montague and Sadie May (Church) Montague of Westhampton.  Ruth was raised on a dairy farm in Westhampton.  She graduated from Northampton High School in 1950 and the University of Massachusetts in 1955.  She married James W Wentworth in 1954 in Westhampton. 

After graduation, she worked several years at the University of Massachusetts Agricultural Economics Department before starting a family.  She later worked for the Town of Amherst in the Recreation Department and then as a secretary at Wildwood Elementary School for many years.

Ruth enjoyed sports, especially NASCAR racing.  She developed her interest in racing after her son Jim moved to Georgia.  She also was a die hard Yankee fan in a house full of Red Sox fans.

She leaves her husband Jim, and son Jim and his wife Cindy, son  Andy and his wife Laurie and grandsons Matt and Sam, and daughter-in-law Barbara and granddaughters Jessica and Abbie, one brother Sidney Montague and his wife Louise and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents, son Thomas, sister Joyce Montague Parsons and her husband Earle Parsons, brothers Frank and his wife Marion, and brother Edward and his wife Irene. 

Calling Hours will be Monday February 12, 2018 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the Douglass Funeral Service, Amherst. Funeral services with the Reverend Heidi Frantz–Dale officiating will be Tuesday February 13, 10:00 am at the Douglass Funeral Service, with burial following in South Amherst Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the South Amherst Congregational Church.
