PostHeaderIcon ROBERT WINDFIELD WHITE of BELCHERTOWN, MA, December 20, 1936 – January 23, 2014

BELCHERTOWN, Robert White, born in Gifford, Florida, December 20, 1936.  His family moved north, settling in Utica, N.Y, where he attended school as well as the local Baptist church along with his family. Robert was a veteran who enlisted in the Army in the 1960’s and was stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma.  He graduated from Morgan State College, Baltimore, MD, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in 1963.  Robert went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Buffalo and Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.   He was a licensed Clinical Social Worker and was employed at Gowanda Psychiatric Center, in Gowanda, New York. Robert later served as Executive Director of Hartford Neighborhood Centers in Hartford, CT in the late 1980’s.  He taught at the State University of New York in Binghamton, N.Y. for four years prior to retiring.  He was a member of the F.A.M. Prince Hall Master Mason in Utica, N.Y. After moving to Massachusetts, he became a regular visitor at the Goodwin Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in Amherst. He is survived by his wife, Minnie White, their son, Warren, his wife Alanna, and his grandson, Samuel White; his brother and sister-in-law William and Gloria White, and their family.  Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Warren Windfield White and Cora White. Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 30, at 10:00 a.m. at the Goodwin Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, Amherst. Burial will be Friday, Jan. 31, at 10:00 a.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. Calling hours will be Wednesday, Jan 29, from 6-8 p.m. at the Douglass Funeral Service, Amherst. Obituary and memorial register at www.douglassfuneral.com.
