AMHERST, Long time Amherst resident, Dr. Charlotte K. Spivack passed away on November 1 after a lengthy illness.  She was 87.  Dr. Spivack was a Professor of English at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst from 1964 to 2006, where she taught courses on Shakespeare, Renaissance Drama and Modern Fantasy Literature and received the University’s Distinguished Teaching Award.  A renowned scholar, Spivack wrote nine books and numerous articles about Renaissance and early modern and fantasy literature and mentored generations of graduate and undergraduate students.  She is survived by her son and daughter and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 10:00 a.m. at the Douglass Funeral Service, Amherst, with burial following in North Amherst Cemetery.
