CLARENCE R. “CHUCK” BABB of HADLEY, MA, October 14, 1934 – November 11, 2013

Author: HADLEY, Clarence R. “Chuck” Babb, 79, died Nov. 11, 2013 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. He was born in Hadley, Oct. 14, 1934, son of the late Walter R. and Gladys E. {Murray} Babb. Chuck was a 1953 graduate of Hopkins Academy; he served in the United States Army in Germany and served on the Amherst Fire call force. He joined the Amherst Police Department in 1956, and served the force until 1988, when he retired as a Lieutenant. Chuck took great pride in the fact that he served his country and his local community. Chuck was a Master Mason at the Pacific Lodge of Masons in Amherst, a lifetime member of Amherst VFW Post 754, and a member of the Hadley Young Men’s Club. He was also an avid sports fan; dedicated to all of the local teams. He is survived by two sons; Raymond, and his wife Melanie of Hadley, and Richard and his wife Connie of Louisiana, and their mother Marjorie Babb. His true passion was the love and pride he had for his four grandchildren, Marisa, Mackenzie, Richard and Andrew. His “sister”, Eleanor Davis Wolff predeceased him. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Mohamed Kamel for his many years of excellent care and personal attention. Funeral Services will be held Monday, Nov. 18, at 10:00 AM at The Douglass Funeral Home in Amherst, followed by burial in Plainville Cemetery in Hadley. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday, Nov., 17, from 3:00 – 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to either The Jimmy Fund, the Shriners Hospital in Springfield, or The Amherst Police Relief Association, c/o APD, 111 Main St. Amherst, MA 01002.
